The Inn is the site of dream and deceit, the place where the ingenuous and gullible Pinocchio meets two greedy tricksters, the Cat and the Fox.
The deceitful nature of the two animals is rendered by the sweet expressions of their faces in contrast with their wicked intentions, as illustrated for example by the pistol concealed behind the back.
