Name of the work: The Square of Mosaics
Landscape Architects: Renato Baldi and Lionello de Luigi
Creator: Venturino Venturi
The Square of the Mosaics is a square, thirty metres long on each side, completely paved and surrounded by shaped perimeter walls decorated with an evocative interpretation of the story of Pinocchio. This space devoted to the Adventures of Pinocchio, written by Carlo Lorenzini, is set within a lush and suggestive landscape designed by the landscape architects Renato Baldi and Lionello de Luigi.
Along the walls we encounter many of the characters that accompany Pinocchio in his many adventures. At an outer corner, at one of the entrances, we can see a small bas relief that shows Carlo Collodi. The work itself consists of four long walls, which were built personally by the artist, portraying the most important episodes in the story of Pinocchio in the form of mosaic, using stone and marble tesserae.
This impressive and evocative space is also used as a site for events and celebrations, such as the traditional Pinocchio’s Birthday.
