Name of the work: Pinocchio and the Fairy
Creator: Emilio Greco
Beyond the entrance we come to the first of the works that won the National Competition in 1956 and were created for the Pinocchio Park: Pinocchio and the Fairymade by Emilio Greco. Of an overall height of five metres, this sculpture represents Pinocchio’s human progress, when he was transformed from a wooden puppet into a boy. Here we can identify three characters from the Pinocchio story: at the bottom, the puppet being made out of the piece of wood given to Geppetto, in the centre the Turquoise Fairy, who looks after Pinocchio and protects him, and at the top the Falcon who is sent by the Fairy to rescue Pinocchio when he is left hanging from the tree.
