March 28, 2009
Pinocchio is the hero for children all over the world, the most famous and popular symbol of children, of their crave for life, of their need to grow up with culture and education too.
More than fifty years now the National Carlo Collodi Foundation has been fostering - in any situation and by any mean a cultural foundation can use – the right of children to education and to forms of culture that are open to their needs and available to them, through literature, art, communication.
On March 28, 2009 in Collodi we will raise the greatest wooden Pinocchio in the world. It’s an event that will call attention from all over the world.
That Pinocchio will not be a toy: it will recall to all of us how important good culture can be for children. We want to make tthis event an occasion to point out what we do care for and consider basic: the right of children to education and culture.
That is why we are asking you to sign with us a call for
THE INCLUSION OF THE PRINCIPLES FROM U.N.O. DECLARATION OF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS IN THE EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION, WITH SPECIFIC CONCERN FOR ARTICLES 28-31 ON EDUCATION AND CULTURE.
You can sign on the web or in Collodi itself, on March 28, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., before the inauguration takes place. The call with all our signatures will be sent to the European Commission and the European Parliament by the Collodi Foundation. A copy of the signed call with the signatures will be solemnly put under the hat of the great Pinocchio during the inauguration.
